Budds Creeks Pro National and family reunion
Hi again.
I have just been reading everyones comments on our blog. I am not sure why it has been so hard to post comments on our blog but thanks for perservering. Thank you for the regular comments and support from CNC, RNR, A1property, Granny Lyn and Mr Montford. Comments from Christian, sorry we missed your visit. Kent, we have been working on starts. Thanks Paul and Norma for your support. Great to hear from Selina & Mitch. Kinder, we will work on video. Kristen, I meant to call you back but I forgot to as we were leaving. Ann, glad you worked it out. Les and Jeanette and Dad, nice to hear from you. If I missed anyone sorry.
Now for my update.
We trained again last week. It was over 100F and after 5 hours Josiah was done.
There was a top amateur (Zach Bell) riding and he had a nasty crash. He broke his femur and wrist. His bike stopped going over a jump and he went over the front and let go of his bike in mid air. This put all the boys off riding for a moment but they kept going.
On Wednesday morning we headed off to meet Ben Townley at Davi Millsaps personal riding track. It was very hot. The track was set up for bigger bikes (450s) but Josiah did some practice then some starts then just watched Ben train. It was good to meet Craig, Ben's machanic, who is from the Hawke's Bay and is a friend of Andy our sponser from CNC Profile Cutting Services.
After some bike maintenence we headed off west on highway 84 to connect to Interstate 95 to head north to Budds Creek (Maryland). I drove from 4pm until 9:30pm then stopped at a truck stop for the night. Thursday was a 12 hour drive. Just before Richmond VA, I was looking in my rear vision mirror and thought that tire looks funny. At the same time a couple pulled up beside me and pointed back. The trailer tyre was shredding. I pulled over and the man stopped and helped me change the tyre. We were back on the road again in 10min thanks to Kenny's wheel changing ramp. Thanks Kenny!
After arriving at Budds Creek we got set up, had tea, signed on for amateur racing on the Friday then walked the track. Josiah thought the track was "mean as" and had awesome jumps. He rode 2 classes that day and won both.
We were expecting Chris, Sarah and Joel to arrive from Washington DC airport about 9pm so we went to the gate to meet them. By 10pm I had not seen them. At 10.15pm I got a message to say they were half an hour away. It was great to see them all and we spent a good amount of time catching up which was good.
The pro national was on the Saturday. We watched Ben who was going really well in the first moto but had trouble with the fuel pump and ended up finishing 14th. In the next moto he rode really well and finished 3rd. At the end of racing we went to the pits and finally meet Lucy (Ben's wife) who I've been talking to on the phone but not yet met.
We stayed another night at the track and in the morning headed to Washington D.C. to do some sight seeing at the Smithsonian museums.

Hi Natzke 5
ReplyDeleteBet you are all walking around with big smiles at being together again. Weeks just fly around don't they. Looking at that tyre Janine sent a silly thought through my grey matter - Janine probably has felt like that poor tyre at times on her travels!!
Have a super time together, but why do I have to tell you all that. Of course you will.
Lovely day here yesterday but today opened the curtains and goodness me, that white stuff is floating down all around. Very cold but hey its winter.
Take care and big hugs
Love Lyn & Lily (who is still snuggled up under the duvet. Wise move)
Sounds awesome...looks like it was an awesome track to. You guys must be having the time of your lives. Keep the blogs coming..You got a massive cheer and clap from the class when I told them you had qualified. And Janine - its Rodney...NOT Mr Montford...thats too official and only for between the hours of 9 and 3!!
